Open Training Sessions

Day 1: Introduction to Moodle
The primary goal of the first day of training is to introduce participants to Moodle. The training will begin with a brief overview of Moodle. This overview will be followed by a guided tour of Moodle's most popular features and tools from the perspective of the learner. As the first day comes to a close, participants will create the shell of their own “sandbox” course.

Topics include:

  • Creating and editing your Moodle profile
  • Hands-on experience with the “Top 5” Moodle modules: Assignment, Choice, Forum, Quiz, and Resource
  • Defining your course settings and using blocks, topic summaries, and labels to customize your course

Day 2: Building your Moodle Course
On the second day, the focus will be learning to create several of the most frequently used Moodle activities. Strategies and resources for good course design will be presented through the course of the day. Training will conclude with a discussion of rapid course development prototyping and review of the resources available to participants following the training.

Topics include:

  • Creating resources to link to web pages as well as electronic files
  • Building assignments, quizzes, and discussion forums
  • Managing learners
  • Discussion of other Moodle tools based on needs of participants

Note: If you have materials that you would like to use as you start to build your Moodle course, please bring them (in an electronic format) as you can use them when we add sample activities.
